Specificity builds credibility. Vague claims get ignored because they sound like every other company.
Question vs. statement:

Questions engage curiosity. Statements make claims. Test which resonates with your audience.
Pain-focused vs. aspiration-focused:

Some audiences respond to pain avoidance. Others respond to gain. You won’t know until you test.

An ecommerce brand testing headlines for their landing page:
- Original: “Premium leather bags, handcrafted in Italy” (2.1% conversion rate)
- Variant: “The last bag you’ll ever buy — guaranteed for life” (3.4% conversion rate)
The variant focused on the customer’s desire (durability, never buying again) rather than the product’s attributes (leather, Italy). 62% lift in conversions.
Test 2: The Call-to-Action (CTA)
The CTA button is the conversion moment. The text, placement, and context around it all matter.
CTA Text
Generic vs. specific:
- A: “Submit” or “Sign up”
- B: “Start my free trial” or “Get my custom quote”
Specific CTAs that describe what the visitor gets outperform generic ones consistently.
First person vs. second person:
- A: “Start your free trial”

This is a small change that often produces a measurable lift. “My” creates a sense of ownership.
Action vs. commitment:

CTA Placement
- Above the fold only vs. above the fold + repeated after key sections

Generally, having multiple CTAs throughout a long page outperforms a single CTA. Users who are ready to convert shouldn’t have to scroll back up.

What surrounds the button matters. Test adding:

Long Page vs. Short Page

- Long (multiple sections): Full breakdown of features, benefits, testimonials, FAQ, multiple CTAs. Works for complex products, high price points, and cold traffic.
Rule of thumb: The more expensive or complex the product, the longer the page should be. A $29 t-shirt doesn’t need a 3,000-word landing page. A $5,000 software subscription does.
Information Order
Test the sequence of sections:
- Hero and then Features and then Testimonials and then CTA
- Hero and then Testimonials and then Features and then CTA
- Hero and then Problem/Pain and then Solution and then Proof and then CTA (PAS framework)
The PAS (Problem, Agitation, Solution) framework often outperforms feature-first layouts because it establishes why the visitor should care before explaining what you sell.
Visual Hierarchy
- Single-column vs. two-column layout
- Image on left with text on right vs. text on left with image on right
- Video hero vs. image hero

Test 5: Forms
For lead generation pages, the form is the conversion point. Its length and design directly affect completion rates.
Number of Fields
The classic advice is “fewer fields = more conversions.” This is true up to a point, but fewer fields also means lower lead quality.
Test: Name + Email (2 fields) vs. Name + Email + Phone + Company (4 fields)
You’ll often find that 4 fields produce fewer total leads but higher-quality leads that convert at a better rate downstream. Test with your sales team’s input.

How to Run A/B Tests Properly
1. Test One Thing at a Time
If you change the headline AND the CTA AND the image, and conversions go up, you don’t know which change caused it. Isolate one variable per test.
2. Calculate Sample Size First
You need enough traffic for statistical significance. For a page converting at 3%, you need roughly 2,500 visitors per variant to detect a 20% lift with 95% confidence.
If your landing page gets 200 visitors a month, A/B testing individual elements will take months to reach significance. In that case, test bigger changes (entirely different page concepts) that would produce larger lifts.
3. Run for Full Business Cycles
Don’t stop a test mid-week. Conversion rates vary by day (weekday vs. weekend, Monday vs. Friday). Run tests for at least 1-2 full weeks, ideally covering multiple business cycles.
4. Don’t Peek
If you check results daily and stop the test as soon as one variant “looks” better, you’ll make false-positive decisions. Set a sample size target before starting and don’t declare a winner until you hit it.
5. Measure What Matters
If your Google Ads are sending traffic to this page and the goal is purchases, measure purchases — not pageviews, time on page, or scroll depth. Those are interesting diagnostics, but conversion rate is the metric that matters.
