Amplitude User Management

Amplitude permissions are controlled at the organization and project level. Use this playbook to keep the collaborator onboarded, updated, and removed without breaking audit trails or SSO syncs.

Access Requests at a Glance

  • Follow Add User Access when a new engagement begins or a new project needs to be shared.
  • Use Update Access & Roles to adjust scopes, such as enabling Govern or Experiment modules, or adding Amplitude Data admin rights.
  • Reference Remove User Access when work wraps and the service account should be deprovisioned.

Roles to Maintain

  • Organization Admins: Manage SSO, billing, and project creation. Keep at least two client admins plus one the collaborator’s contact.
  • Project Managers/Analysts: Day-to-day users with edit rights to charts, cohorts, and dashboards. Scope the collaborator to only the projects in play.
  • Data Governors: Optional role for teams that expect the collaborator to help with Tracking Plans or Govern approvals.

Governance Checklist

  • Document which IdP groups grant Amplitude access and confirm the collaborator’s membership aligns with contractual scope.
  • Review Amplitude’s Access Logs quarterly and export them for compliance storage.
  • Track pending invites to ensure the collaborator’s service account accepts within the expected SLA.
  • Keep notes on which projects the collaborator’s administers so future cleanup doesn’t orphan dashboards or metrics.
